Mandarin at Francis Scott Key & Sunset Elementary School

In partnership with the school site and Sunset Neighborhood Beacon Center, Everyday Mandarin offers after school Mandarin instruction to over 90 students in grades K-5.

Our program focuses on high-quality instruction taught by native-speaking Mandarin teachers. We train our teachers to use positive reinforcement and behavior modification techniques to create an environment that nurtures students' curiosity and excitement to learn Mandarin. A priority for our program is that students have fun and enjoy learning the language and about Chinese culture. We aim to create a strong language foundation, a natural instinct to understand Chinese and the passion to pursue learning Mandarin. Learn more about the curriculum our program uses.

**Update for 2020-21**

SFUSD has elected to start the school year with distance learning so our Mandarin programs will be modified to best suit students' needs Live! online. We appreciate your patience and flexibility as we adapt our program to continue to be effective in teaching Mandarin while supporting the social emotional needs of our students.

Our teachers have spent the summer improving their online presence and presentation skills with 1-on-1 sessions and summer camp.

Our program will continue to teach the same Mandarin curriculum based on the YCT series of textbooks and workbooks. Our teachers are adding regular check-ins with students and activities fostering peer socialization using Mandarin. We want to be considerate of students' and families limitations and workloads so homework will be optional and delayed until students settle into the school year.

Online classes are scheduled to start the week of September 14, 2020. Classes will be meeting twice per week for 50 minutes per day. For enrollent information, contact the After-School Site Coordinator.
