Why it matters

What students bring home

Years of Mandarin class lead to this moment: the language stops being a school subject and becomes a way to connect with real people.

A real reason to speak

Ordering food, asking directions and chatting with Chinese classmates turn vocabulary into something students actually use.

Confidence that lasts

Children who make themselves understood in China come home far more willing to speak Mandarin, in class and with family.

Friends across the Pacific

A day at a Shanghai school lets students meet kids their own age and see how they learn, play and live.

Culture they can touch

Calligraphy, paper cutting and blue-print cloth with local artisans make history and tradition tangible.

Independence and curiosity

Navigating a new country with classmates and teachers builds resilience, flexibility and a sense of adventure.

Motivation for what’s next

Seeing where Mandarin can take them gives students a powerful reason to keep learning for years to come.
